Vittorio Monti (1868 - 1922) was born in Naples and studied at the Conservatorio di San Pietro a Majella with Pinto (violin) and Serrao (composition). He went to Paris in 1886 where he perfected his violin playing studying with Sivori, and was for many years first violin in the Lamoureux Orchestra. His works include ballets and operettas, as well as instrumental, vocal and violin pieces. He is best remembered as the composer of the celebrated Csárdás for violin and orchestra.
Csárdás has been arranged for every imaginable instrument. This version, for tenor horn soloist and brass band has been arranged by Steve York.
