Bruckner wrote the choral work in 1869 for the dedication of a new chapelat the New Cathedral in Linz, Austria, where he was the organist. It has gone on to be one of his most loved and most frequently performed compositions.

This lovely music by Beethoven has long been associated, within Salvation Army circles, with Anthony Legget´s words wich say:

"Author of beauty, I humbly enter the garden. To rest awhile midst its warm and fragrant tranquillity. Here, in thy keeping, apart from the turmoil and toiling My thankful heart may respond to all the love shown to me".
