No. 2100   March - Glad Tidings by Kenneth Smith

This march is a welcome addition to the Christmas repertoire. The carols included are; 'O come, all ye faithful', 'While shepherds watched' and 'Angels we have heard on high'.

No. 2101   Abide with me by Erik Leidzen adpt. Ronald Holz

Leidzen's 'Abide with me' dates from the last year of his life (1962) and existed in two manuscripts held by the USA Eastern Territory's Music Department; mixed choir with piano and a full score for wind band. Both manuscripts were almost complete but required a few gaps to be filled. It is probable that Leidzen intended it as an addition to his successful series of wind band preludes that could also be performed with choir. Ronald Holz has rescored and edited the work for brass band, following Leidzen's approach to orchestration as closely as possible. Metronome markings were added during the editing process, Leidzen rarely included them on his own scores. The challenging timpani part, with many quick changes of pitch, comes directly from the original score and can be considered optional.

No. 2102   A robe of white by Trevor Worthingon

An attractive arrangement, in swing style, of the tune of the same name.

No. 2103   Consecration by Brian Bowen

This music was written at the request of the New York Staff Band for the Sunday morning service at Hendon Corps during the band's visit to London for the Hendon Highlights concert in January 2010. The tune of Hendon appears three times and there are short references to two other melodies associated with the same hymn; Nottingham (attributed to Mozart) and Jude's Consecration Hymn. The hymn in question is by Frances Ridley Havergal; 'Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord to thee'.
