No 264   March - New-Born Hope
by Morgan Juel Stavik

This Christmas march was written in 2007 and first performed by the London Citadel Band. The carol "Away in a Manger" is the only song presented in its entirety, although there are clear references to other songs throughout the piece.

No 265   Flugel Horn solo - I Wonder As I Wander
by Harold Burgmayer

The plaintive simplicity of the carol "I wonder as I wander" is believed to be of Appalachian origin. It was notated and arranged by John Jacob Niles in 1933 and is arranged here for flugel horn and band. The first verse is:
"I wonder as I wander, out under the sky
How Jesus, the Savior, did come for to die
For poor orn´ry people like you and like I
I wonder as I wander out under the sky".

No 266   Somewhere in My Memory
by John Williams, arr Thomas Mack

From the motion picture "Home Alone" lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, music by John Williams, this song reminds us of the many dimensions of Christmas time:
"Somewhere in my memory,
Christmas joys all around me,
Living in my mem´ry
All of the music all of the magic,
all of the mfam´ly home here with me".

No 267   Ye Merry Gentlemen
arr by Dorothy Gates

Major Thomas Mack arranged "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" for band chorus in 2007. This forward loking arrangement had a hip-hop beat and toes tapping every time the New York Staff Band sang it. Inspired by Major Mack´s original, this fun arrangement for band goes a step or two further into the realm of hip-hop. Ponder anew on those ancient tidings of comfort and joy.
